Dissenters welcome
The Samford Crimson
Issue date: 2/20/08 Section: Opinion
“Andrew, walk it out... Matthew, walk it out...”
Anyone who attended or participated in this year’s Step Sing will likely agree that Sigma Chi’s rendition of Unk’s “Walk It Out” was one of the most memorable songs of the entire show.
What many members of the Samford community do not agree on, however, is whether or not “The Original Fraternity” was respectful enough of the religious ideals upon which this university was founded to be deserving of the coveted Sweepstakes award.
Take, for instance, the speak ups featured in this issue. One condemns Sigma Chi’s winning portrayal of Jesus’ disciples; the other defends it.
As a Crimson staff, we are proud to report that last year’s guest column “Would Jesus join a fraternity?” seems to have inspired such a creative and somewhat satirical Step Sing performance.
In the same way, we continue to welcome letters and columns expressing differing viewpoints on the role of both Greek Life and religion on campus, as these do not seem to be issues that are going away anytime soon.
