Former President Bush supports McCain
Issue date: 2/20/08 Section: News
Former President George H.W. Bush has announced his support of potential Republican presidential candidate, John McCain, in the 2008 Presidential elections on Monday.
“I believe now is the right time for me to help John in his effort to start building the broad-based coalition it’ll take for our conservative values to carry the White House this fall,” Bush said, according to cnn.com.
The new support comes in addition to the support of Mitt Romney, a former candidate who dropped out of the race a few weeks ago. McCain is leading the Republican race, having collected 940 of the 1,191 delegates needed as opposed to Mike Huckabee whose current delegate standing amounts to 245.
