The Bulldogs (3-5, 1-4 SoCon) lost their third consecutive conference game Saturday against The Citadel Bulldogs, 28-16. Samford held a 10-0 lead going into halftime, but The Citadel's second-half comeback proved to be too much. Head coach Pat Sullivan said he felt the team should have pulled out the victory.
The women's cross country team lived up to all their hype placed on them this season by winning the SoCon championship meet Saturday at Elon. It is the first SoCon championship for Samford athletics. "It didn't go as planned," head coach Lori Strand said.
The Samford soccer team is only two wins shy of earning its third NCAA Tournament appearance in five seasons. On Friday at 4 p.m. (CST), the Bulldogs will face the College of Charleston Cougars in the semifinal round of the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs are now 15-12 and 9-4 in the SoCon after splitting two road games Saturday and Sunday. The team dropped Saturday's match to Elon, 3-0, but bounced back on Sunday to defeat UNC Greensboro, 3-2. The Elon match was not one of the team's best performances, head coach Derek Schroeder said.
"Rivera gets him out, and the Yankees win it!" How many times have we heard Joe Buck call this phrase in the last decade? Well, we all heard it yet again Wednesday night as the New York Yankees/galactic empire wrapped up their record-setting 27th world championship, and I sat in my room with a frown and a sick stomach.
