UM discusses missions major

University Ministries (UM) is leading the initiative to create an innovative missions major at Samford in response to increasing student interest. Matt Kerlin, minister to the university, said he has students come to him with the issue of a non-existent missions major on a regular basis.

Gospel Choir closes out the semester

Samford's Gospel Choir performed their year-end concert Monday night at 7. "It was very worshipful, and uplifting service. I had people coming up to me and telling me that they had a moment with God that night that they hadn't had in a while," freshman language and cultures major and the local missions coordinator for the choir Ashlee Strong, said.

Art auction raises $2,000 for missions

University Ministries raised $2,000 last Wednesday and Thursday during the Shiloh Art Auction, which will help to send students on mission trips over the summer. The silent auction featured the paintings that are created each week at the Shiloh worship service in Hodges Chapel as well as donated works from students all over campus.

SU braces for H1N1 flu

As news of a new flu epidemic spreads throughout the world, Samford has been preparing to handle a possible outbreak, if the flu had gotten out of control. Samford students received information about H1N1 influenza (more commonly known as swine flu) through an e-mail sent by Vice President of Planning and Operations Sarah Latham.

Football field house nears completion

The Cooney Family Fieldhouse is expected to be substantially completed by July 1. The building, which stands at the south end zone of Seibert Stadium, will be ready for use when the football team returns for fall practice at the beginning of August. According to Vice President of University Relations Randy Pittman, the building will house the offices of all the football coaches, locker rooms, training and workout facilities and team meeting rooms, which will all be located on the first two floors.
